How do I map a drive?

Find the name of the drive you are trying to map. Drive mappings look like this: \\server\share

For Windows XP
  1. Go to Start and right-click on "My Computer".
  2. Select "Map Network Drive".
  3. Click on the down arrow to the right side of the box labeled "Drive:" and select any available letter.
  4. Click in the box labeled "Folder:" and enter the drive mapping (e.g. \\file3\tmp )
  5. Choose whether you would like to reconnect every time you log on.
  6. Click Finish.

For MacOS X
  1. From the finder file menu, click on "Go" and select "Connect to Server".
  2. Using your own username, server, and share, enter the following information:

    smb://<username>@<server>.asc.upenn.edu/<share>

e.g. If your username is "jdoe" and you're trying to attach to \\file3\tmp you would enter:

    smb://jdoe@file3.asc.upenn.edu/tmp

  3. Click Connect.

From outside ASC, point your web browser to the VPN server at http://access.asc.upenn.edu (login required). Click on the Start button labeled "Network Connect" to install and run the VPN client application. Java is required. If you do not have java installed, you can download it from http://www.java.com. When you have connected successfully, you will see an icon for a yellow lock on the start menu or toolbar. You can now follow the instructions above to map a drive.
