Klaus Krippendorff, Ph.D.

Klaus Krippendorff, Ph.D., the Gregory Bateson Professor for Cybernetics, Language, and Culture, was interviewed via Skype by a graduate class on “Critical issues in organizational communication and learning communities” in the Department of Strategic Communication at Ithaca College, November 8. The interview centered on several articles Prof. Krippendorff wrote on the issue of self-organization versus hierarchical forms of organization, on making reconstitutable networks of conversation the guiding conception of organizations rather than rational goal driven structures, and on the attention on language and ethnography as opposed to formal theory. Students were particularly interested in the role of technology in the changing culture of organizations, ways of learning, and political responsibility and participation. The course was organized by Professor Gordon Rowland of the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College.
