Jingwen Zhang

Annenberg doctoral student Jingwen Zhang will attend the Harvard Berkman Summer Internship (June 4 – August 10) in Cambridge, MA.

Each summer, the Youth and Media lab at Harvard's Berkman Center selects a group of full-time interns who share an interest in the exploration and study of youth and their engagement with media. Once selected, the interns complete a two-month program working alongside the Youth and Media Team and other members of the Berkman community where they explore issues that relate to youth and their engagement with media.

During this summer, Jingwen Zhang is going to work with Dr. John Palfrey and Dr. Urs Gasser with other interns to study youth sexual health-information seeking behavior, which entails great implication for developing online sexual health communication programs. Both interviews and query logs will be employed to understand the searching dynamics. Specific research questions may include: 1) What are the motivations for youth to search sexual health information online? 2) How does searching online interact with seeking information offline to inform decision? 3) For specific concerns (e.g. pregnancy), what are the searching processes? These research projects will extend the literature on youth digital literacy and health communication involving social media applications.
