Klaus Krippendorff, Ph.D., the Gregory Bateson Professor for Cybernetics, Language, and Culture, was invited to address students and faculty of
Konstfack, Sweden’s largest University of Arts, Crafts, and Design on May 23
rd 2012 in Stockholm. He was asked to elaborate on the “Key Concepts in
The Semantic Turn; A new Foundation for Design.” The announcement said: “The book’s title refers to a paradigm shift in the design of artifacts – from an emphasis on how they function, to what they mean to those who use them. The book contributes to the articulation of a culture-sensitive design discourse and offers a clear identity for professional designers.”
On May 28, 2012, Prof. Krippendorff discussed “Educational implications of Human-centeredness with faculty and graduate students of the Linnaeus University in Kalmar/Växjö, Sweden. His “Semantic Turn” is widely read in this university and questions of the kinds of courses needed to extend the science for design and stimulate serious research into the role of stakeholders of cultural artifacts were laid out and discussed.
