Center of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research lecture features Dr. Monique Mitchell Turner

Wednesday, March 22, 2006

The Center of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research (CECCR) welcomed Dr. Monique Mitchell Turner to speak at the Annenberg School, for a talk titled "The role of anxiety in seeking and retaining risk information: Testing the risk perception attitude framework in two studies."

Her study examined the Risk Perception Attitude framework, which predicts that risk and efficacy interact to affect information seeking by individuals considering health (cancer) issues. Results indicate that when risk is high and efficacy is low, individuals experience anxiety. This anxiety leads to increased motivation to seek out cancer-related information, but debilitates cognitive processing of this information.
