Keith N. Hampton, Ph.D, Assistant Professor of Communication at Annenberg, was presented with an award from the American Sociological Association section on Communication and Information Technologies for his i-neighbors project. The award is given annually “for the development of a computing application or applications that provide an outstanding contribution for the advancement of sociological theory or practice; and/or for developments that enhance instruction in sociology.” Dr. Hampton’s i-neighbors.org (www.i-neighbors.org) is a social networking service that connects people and helps build neighborhoods that are safer, better informed, and better equipped to deal with local issues. i-neighbors helps individuals and communities build social capital by providing a place for neighbors to find each other, organize, share information and work together to address local problems. i-neighbors supports over 5,000 neighborhoods in the 50 United States and all 10 Canadian provinces.
