James DePreist (ASC ’61) to lead Cascade Music Festival in Bend, OR

James DePreist, the Oregon Symphony's former conductor and music director, has been asked to become the new artistic director of the Cascade Festival of Music in Bend, OR. Mr. DePreist, 70, will take over the festival's creative duties upon completion of next year's festival, when Murry Sidlin, artistic director since 1996, is stepping down. Mr. DePreist is permanent conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the director of conducting and orchestral studies at The Juilliard School in New York City. He retired from the Oregon Symphony in 2003, after 23 years with the orchestra.
