Faculty member Katherine Sender promoted, granted tenure

Annenberg faculty member Katherine Sender, Ph.D., has been promoted to Associate Professor of Communication, with tenure. The honor was agreed to by the University of Pennsylvania’s Provost’s office earlier this spring, and voted on by the University Board of Trustees at their May meeting.
Dr. Sender is the author of the book Business, not Politics: The Making of the Gay Market (2004) as well as many other articles on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) media and marketing. She is currently working on a new book on audience perceptions of makeover reality shows, The Big Reveal: Makeover Television, Audiences, and the Promise of Transformation. She is also the producer, director, and editor of a number of documentaries, including “Off the Straight and Narrow: Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Television” (1998), and “Further Off the Straight and Narrow: New Gay Visibility on Television” (2006).
