Paul Messaris, Ph.D., the Lev Kuleshov Professor of Communication, has written a review essay of five books about visual communication titled “Visual Communication and Social Advocacy.” His work appears in the
Journal of Communication (March 2010, pp. E1 – E8). The essay is on the following books:

Daring to look: Dorothea Lange’s photographs and reports from the field by Anne Whiston Spirn (University of Chicago 2008).
