The Annenberg School for Communication: Children & Media

For Parents: Overview

Part of the goal of the Children’s Media Lab is to ensure that our research is translated into meaningful practices that parents and caregivers can easily incorporate into their child’s media diet.

Through this website, we are hoping to provide parents with important tools and resources to help them make educated choices about media and its influence in our daily lives. The current section of the website offers you an overview of what we have learned from our research, including the effects of media on young children, how literacy skills can be fostered through the media, and what type of content is developmentally appropriate for your children.  We also address many frequently asked questions in this line of research as well as provide online resources that may be useful as you make decisions about which media to include in your home as well as ways to help ensure that your child’s media experience is a positive one.
