Dr. Deborah Linebarger, Assistant Professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication and Director of the children's Media Lab, recently discussed the benefits of educational TV in an Education Week article. In the article, Dr. Linebarger says the best programs create content that reflects research on how children learn and test it out on children prior to putting it on television. "When they do these things and kids understand them and like them, the shows are really successful,” Dr. Linebarger said, adding that the commercial success can often underwrite the costly development process.
