Sarah Vaala presented new eyetracking research at the 21st Annual Convention of the Association for Psychological Science in San Francisco, CA. The research, conducted in collaboration with Matthew Lapierre and Dr. Deborah Linebarger, utilized eyetracking methodology to investigate how children and adults attend to onscreen print - as well as the role that onscreen movement, text complexity, and the absence of verbal narration play on this attention. Findings suggest that cognitive load affects attention to print, particularly for pre-literate children, and during highly dynamic scenes containing complex text.
