Annenberg Children's Media Lab Releases Two New Reports

11/04/2009

The Children's Media Lab recently released two new reports: Assessing the Impact of Between the Lions and Literacy Manipulatives on the Literacy Skills of Young Children and Language Promoting Strategies Embedded in Infants' Educational Videos  The first report, authored by Jessica Taylor Piotrowski, Deborah L. Linebarger, and Nancy Jennings, reports results from a quasi-experimental study evaluating how Between the Lions supports the literacy skills of youngsters and whether and how this effect is impacted by the inclusion of literacy manipulatives (both generic and character-branded).  The second, authored by Sarah Vaala and Deborah Linebarger, reports results from an ongoing content analysis of infant educational videos.  The report evaluates the presence and type of language promoting strategies contained within a sample of infant educational videos, and whether and how these strategies map on to producers' claims.
