The Rush Limbaugh Program WWDB September 27, 1995 Tape 1, Side A RUSH Runaway pigs in Rio Linda, California, ladies and gentlemen, details coming up on this the Rush Limbaugh program, weÕre here. As long as IÕm here though, it doesnÕt really matter where here is so donÕt bother trying to find us. Just listen to the excellence in broadcasting network, etc. OPEN LINE FRIDAY Introduces telephone number. WeÕve got to start off with some light-hearted news first. Runaway Vietnamese pot belly pigs in Rio Linda, California. You people may not know this, but Rio Linda, California is perhaps the United States capital of Vietnamese pot belly pigs. More Rio Lindens have them as pets than in any city in America or close to it. They rank right up there. I remember when I was in Sacramento seeing story after story after story about how they bring in these cute little poor pot bellied pigs in and the thing is that nobody knows is that these things end up weighing a gazillion pounds, and they no longer remain lap pigs. Once they get big, theyÕre not even couch pigs. So whatÕs happened is a bunch of people have gotten rid of these cute, cuddly, Vietnamese pot bellied pigs, they are now homeless and they are terrorizing the citizens of Rio Linda, California. Television stations in Rio Linda have beamed video of this unsightly sight to TV reception than doers and stations across the country. And apparently ladies and gentlemen what has happened is that these Vietnamese pot bellied pigs, and I know this is tough to believe, but they are actually tearing up the front yards of citizens in Rio Linda. The front yards are already occupied by autos on concrete blocks. ItÕs a major problem. Rio Linda, California. Run away Vietnamese pot bellied pigs are terrorizing the population. IÕm just visualizing Rio Lindans chasing pot bellied pigs all over town. Now this is a funny story. This is a story, itÕs a little football news, but itÕs, actually itÕs not football news, its about a very prominent football figure, Green Bay Packers Coach, Mike Holmgran. ThereÕs a little town in Wisconsin called Marcosan, and in this little town of Marcosan there is a service station and the other night, actually 3:30 in the morning, a passerby saw what he thought was a burglar inside the service station. Now thatÕs an unusual sight because not too many places get burglared in Marcosan and theyÕre arenÕt too many people up at 3:30 in the morning in Marcosan. So if you combine these 2 events, 3:30 in the morning and somebody strolling by the service station sees what he thinks is a burglar inside the service station calls the cops, the cops arrive, and it isnÕt a burglar, it is a life-sized cardboard cutout of Green Bay Packers Coach, Mike Holmgran. He was mistaken for a burglar at the service station. ItÕs hilarious said Debbie Bergeman of BergemanÕs Amoco. ItÕs also nice to know that cops respond quickly when they are advised of a problem. I do not know, what it is, the figure of Holmgran is cutout life-size and his arms are extended as though heÕs holding newspapers, the way you pick up a newspaper. And apparently it was empty, the newspapers had not been placed there yet because the service station wasnÕt opened or the papers hadnÕt arrived or whatever, and so it looked to a passerby like Mike Holmgran was holding up an Amoco Station at 3:30 in the morning. They found out it was just a cardboard cutout. You know the debates, the presidential debates are heating up ladies and gentlemen. How about the latest poll number, CNN, USA Today, anybody see Inside Politics on CNN last night. My friends abject panic has set in from Bernard Shaw to Bill Snyder. Absolute panic has set in. Have you ever seen one of these movies with an avalanche in it? You know how the avalanche starts a few little pebbles trickling down the hill, a slight crack, a little fissure, you got a hint of tension music and then under the mountain of course you go down to the bottom and kids are playing, the innocent bystanders are about to be crushed are minding their own business. And you know whatÕs going to follow. TheyÕre all going to notice all of a sudden here comes the rocks of the avalanche and abject panic sets in thatÕs what the set of Inside Politics looked like last night on CNN. Pebbles is starting to trickle. The media is starting to lose it. The ClintonÕs news network, Bernard Shaw, in reporting CNNÕs tracking poll which is now at 10 points. The presidential campaign is shifting into the spend and slam mode, spend big bucks and use those bucks to slam the opposition. ThatÕs Bernard Shaw. Mr. Snerdley listen to this. Mr. Snerdley time out. Mr. Snerdley I want you to listen to this cause this is probably going to generate some phone calls and I want you to know that IÕve said all there is to say about it. OK. You get my drift here. WeÕre watching CNN, the trickle of the avalanche has just begun Bernard Shaw looking up and seeing a whole mountain coming down on him with a 10 point USA Today, CNN tracking poll all right. And ShawÕs quote is this: ÒThe presidential campaign is shifting into the spend and slam mode. Spend big bucks and use those bucks to slam the opposition.Ó Starting to slam Bernie? Starting to Slam? Where have you been? What television do you watch? Have you ever heard of starving children? Medicare cuts, extremists, slashing this and slashing that. Now all this is, you know what it is folks. ItÕs just that Bob Dole is calling Bill Clinton a liberal. The panic, the avalanche is coming because of the use of the word liberal. Now the poll was at its height, what 21 points some time between September 2nd and now, that polls been at 20 or 21 points. Now its at 10 and IÕm reading the Associated Press story just last night on the wire service and the guy reporting all these various polls and CNNÕs poll is one on which he reported the guy says thereÕs been a slight narrowing of the gap. Like from 21 to 10 points. ThatÕs a movement of 11 points my friends. A slight narrowing of the gap. Bernard Shaw is now very upset that dirty campaigning has begun. But it goes on. Brooks Jackson, reporter for CNN, he does a good job. I think Brook JacksonÕs stuff is some of the most balanced on CNN, but even Brooks Jackson on Inside Politics last night on the Clinton news network said, ÒThe Dole Campaign is tripling the volume of their TV Ads, Clinton Ads were negative-positive in their approach, DoleÕs ads are negative-negative, thereÕs nothing positive about DoleÕs ads, but ClintonÕs at least end up with something....have they forgotten the $35 million of ads thatÕs been spent by the AFL-CIO, all that stuff doesnÕt matter. They seem to conveniently ignore that. They ignore all the lies and distortions and how bout the term ÔextremistsÕ. Let me get to that right now, because up next in this entire situation my friends is our good friend the analyst, William Snyder. Before I get to Snyder though, I just remembered one thing. They put up a map where the Republicans are advertising. They showed a map highlighting where the RepublicanÕs are advertising and how many spots theyÕre running in each market. Now remember when they did that with the labor spots? I donÕt either. I donÕt remember CNN showing this world the labor commercials theyÕre running, I donÕt remember CNN showing us a world the Democratic ads are running, but now we know where every Republican ad is running and who its targeted at. Yes, my friends, a clear sense of panic is set in. Now William Bill Snyder. The story behind the story, this is what his little segment is called. The story behind the story. Why and how is the Clinton lead shrinking? My friends the answer is offered by Bill SnyderÕs the dreaded ÒLÓ word. The liberal word is working, if so, I take some credit. If so, weÕre going to take some credit for this because it works. We know it works. We urged that it be used, and now itÕs being used and they are panicking over it. But never once did they consider that extremists might be a problem word, this normal political rhetoric, but with these people at the Clinton News Network, the word ÔliberalÕ is far more perjaritive than the word ÔextremistÕ. After months and months of the extremist word, extremist here, extremist there, with nary a shrug about it the ÔLÕ word is now not fair. This is just not right, this is the tone of the Inside Politics Report last night on the Clinton News Network. The goofy part about all this is is that we extremists are not and those liberals are so we get mad for being tarred and feathered with an untrue label and they donÕt think anything about it. We tar and feather them with a true label and they canÕt handle it. ItÕs set in friends, the panic, the avalanche. They canÕt explain it and theyÕre all upset the campaign has gotten dirty. And speaking of that about the debates going back and forth arguing and listen to what Mike McCurry said about Bob Dole. Now I have put this in 2 contexts. One heÕs the spokesman for the President of the United States. Remember this is supposed to be a cut above and the President wants to have this attitude that heÕs above it all and looking down on a better than the rest of the pack. And the President also said there wouldnÕt be any mean spirited attacks from his side. That wasnÕt going to happen we were going to stick to the issues. So here is Mike McCurry traveling with the President in Pennsylvania on Wednesday making fun of Bob Dole as a debater. Called him the Titanic Juggernaut of Debaters. Well the second context is these people are ripe, they are over confident, they think they have it in the bag. And you start talking about things like this, Bob Dole, that Titanic Juggernaut of Debaters. Dole is a good debater and people who remember his 1976 debates and 1980 debates, he doesnÕt do a bad job. These people are just over-confident and itÕs going to be a problem for them, especially if they have this kind of attitude and this is mean spirited and this is what weÕre accused of being, but McCurry is all over the place. You know this is not new for Mike McCurry. Mike McCurry also has said that he thinks Republicans want old people to just die. Remember that? Mc Curry, he just thinks Republicans want old people to just wither away and die. Not just Medicare thatÕs what McCurry says Republicans want and now Bob Dole is the Titanic Juggernaut of Debaters. Finally, about the Israeli situation. Just so you know. Bill Clinton is blaming the Jews. Bill Clinton blames the Jews for the shooting war that has erupted on the West Bank in Israel over this tunnel through Jerusalem. Bill Clinton front page of the newspapers here in New York today. Bill Clinton is blaming the Jews. This is Rush Limbaugh in New York on the Excellence in Broadcasting Network and weÕll be back.. COMMERCIAL RUSH This is Rush Limbaugh during the commercial break here and Mr. Snerdley says, Òdo you know a a Paul Horning?Ó I said, Òdo I know a Paul Horning?Ó ÒYeah, you ever heard of a Paul Horning?Ó I said, ÒYeahÓ. ÒAll right, heÕs on from Indianapolis.Ó (Rush corrects Mr. SnerdleyÕs use of the word ÒaÓ in the phrase Òdo you know ÒaÓ Paul HorningÓ). Rush says, ÒThere is not Ò aÓ Paul Horning Mr. Snerdley, itÕs the Paul Horning and he is on a cellular call from Indianapolis. Is this true?Ó PAUL Well thank you very much Rush and dittos to you from the highways of Notre Dame RUSH It is!!!! Yeah, itÕs the real Paul Horning!!! How are you? PAUL Just fine. IÕve been a fan of yours for a long time. ItÕs kind of odd. My wife has tried to get through for 4 years. WeÕre driving up to Notre Dame for the Ohio State/Notre Dame Game which I work on mutual and anyway she says letÕs try to get through to Rush. I said oh we canÕt get through and I just picked up the phone and called and IÕll be darned IÕm on the phone and IÕm happy to say hello to you. RUSH IÕll tell you what this is a thrill. This is an absolute thrill. I have so much respect. You know Paul I gotta tell you something. Aside from your career on the field you used to do a show and I think it lasted for 1 year on TBS down in Atlanta on a Saturday night you and a couple of other guys you ended up picking the games. You did your pick segment at the end. That was from the stadium club at Fulton County State, one of the best football pre-game shows IÕve ever seen. PAUL Called ÒFootball Saturday LiveÓ RUSH ThatÕs right. And it reviewed some of the hot college games that day. Now let me ask you this. I have Sunday Ticket on my BSS Satellite and you do a show that they run before the network pre-game. When do you tape that show, where do you tape it? PAUL I tape the show in Louisville, Kentucky every Wednesday night and then I send it down to Prime, they put it on Prime Network and they also take a half hour out of the show and put it on NFL Sunday Ticket. So I had George Steinbetter on last week and it was kind of unique because I introduced him 2 minutes after the Yankees clenched the Pennant so RUSH UH OH! OH No. NO NO NO NO NO. IÕm going to hang up. Mr. Snerdley keep this line open in case Mr. Horning happens to get his cellular connection back. Because I got, weÕve got, Paul weÕve lost you if youÕre tuned in on the radio and IÕve got to ask you a question I was leading up to something I heard you say, Òon your show on Prime you were review at first week of the year and youÕre picking the Cowboys in their Monday night game against the Bears and you refer to it as the Dallas Convicts and you made some comment about the way the NFL is going these days vs. the way it used to be when punishing wayward players and I wanted to ask you specifically....by the way folks this is football talk, but it does have to do with society as well. Because drugs are a big part of this presidential campaign. Drugs are a big part of the concern the parents have. TheyÕre worried about what their kids are going to get into as they grow. And if you look at what the National Football League is doing with drugs you have to scratch your head. And a case in point is Bam Morris. Bam Morris last year was a running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The off season Bam Morris and a friend were caught with an incredible amount of marijuana in the trunk of BamÕs car. It seems to be the number is like 6 pounds of marijuana maybe even more than that. And Bam Morris pled no contest which is the equivalent of guilty in exchange for probation, and then the League using their drug policy suspends him for something like 6 games, 4 or 6 games, IÕm not sure which. The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been a clean team in the National Football League and have not wanted to have these kinds of disruptions on the team. TheyÕve always had the reputation of being one of the cleanest teams on the NFL in terms of drugs. So they released Bam Morris before the season started as a result of his plea. Had Bam Morris played for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year, and it has not happened, it is reported that Bam Morris would of earned $187,000. Bam Morris has been signed by the ex-Cleveland Browns, now the Baltimore Ravens at $800,000 a year and will play in 2 weeks for the remainder of the season. So hereÕs the lesson. This is the picture that is presented by the modern day NFL on drugs. Get caught. 6 pounds or whatever it was of marijuana the back of your car in Texas, admit to it, plead guilty, no contest, get released by your team, undergo the league drug policy and come out richer after 6 weeks. No where in society would this happen. Let me get caught with 6 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of my car and have a falling out with my broadcast partners here over it and get picked up, and then have an audience, I mean let me get caught with 6 pounds of marijuana or worse in the trunk of my car and have my life improve as a result. Now this has happened in the case of Bam Morris and I wanted to ask Horning about it because heÕs come under the harsh punishment of the NFL. He was suspended for a full season for gambling. A full season he couldnÕt play. DidnÕt get paid or anything. And now these guys are doing drug, violating the law and they end up actually having their situations improved. You have to ask yourself why. What is the NFLÕs policy really aimed at here. Are they so talent starved that the so few people capable of playing the game at the NFL level that they have to make adjustments so as to keep the fans happy because of the price of everything in the NFL. Tickets, advertising, television packages, or what have you. Or is it that they just havenÕt come to grips with the proper policy, they donÕt have a....hey, Michael Irving. Compared to what Horning did, Michael Irving should be gone for a year and perhaps Bam Morris as well, but it isnÕt happening and thatÕs at variance with whatÕs happening or what is said to be desired by the rest of society. Be back in a minute. COMMERCIAL RUSH ItÕs open line Friday and Rush Limbaugh still trying to re-establish connections via global positioning satellites with Paul Horning enroute to South Bend, Indiana to broadcast a Notre Dame/Ohio State Game tomorrow. Ohio State just came off a 72-0 trouncing of Pitt and Notre Dame...Mr. Snerdley says, ÒWhereÕs Pitt?Ó (Rush laughs) Cellular call from Pittsburgh, Bill hi, welcome to the Rush Limbaugh Program you are on Open Line Friday. BILL Very good, how are you Rush? Very briefly I was at a Pirates game the night before last, the last home game of the season and it was a testimonial farewell to much beloved Manager, Jim Leland. In the middle of the game as they were running some other credits through up on the score board they cut in with a little video tape of Bill Clinton who had been in town the same day and announcing his plan to give out inflation proof bonds. He managed somehow to work into his speech his own testimonial to Jim Leland. At that point the most amazing....(Rush interrupts) RUSH Try to shore up his falling poll numbers here in the very liberal and union oriented Pittsburgh. BILL The most amazing thing happened. The crowds response to BillÕs testimonial and even his appearance on the scoreboard was to boo him. Twenty-five thousand people, 3 times as many as should of been present for a nothing game appeared to absolutely reject the President. Now I donÕt know if thatÕs because we had 25,000 Dole supporters in the stadium or just some kind of reflection on the malaise that may characterize Clinton support. RUSH I got a letter from a guy in Pittsburgh in an e-mail note who recounted the story, but you say the crowd was 25, he said the crowd was 23,000. We have a little bit of a variance there, but he pointed out the same thing you did. When I read his letter and as I listen to your call my reaction is letÕs not be so eager to think ClintonÕs in trouble that will take something like this and assume heÕs in big trouble. It could well be that no politician is welcome in a sports environment where theyÕre honoring Jim LelandÕs night. What the hell are we going to inject a politician whoever it is. WeÕre trying to honor Jim Leland. It might just of been that. Now we can hope of course that in addition to that it could of been to a reaction based on sincere disapproval of der Schlickmeister, a combination of those 2 would be very, very nice. But you have to figure, you know Clinton went and threw out the first pitch at a Baltimore Orioles opener a couple of years ago. Got booed there left and right too, and it happens. Now he gets booed at sporting events more than any other President in American history. BILL But you know your take could be perfectly correct. I just wondered though if the fans really resented his presence, maybe they just ignored the whole thing and go out and buy another beer and another hot dog and forget about it. RUSH Now, do not discount the absolute dislike for politicians in much of American today. You got 25,000 people at a Pittsburgh Pirates game and it is, the Pirates are out of it, this is solely to honor Jim Leland. You got people there for an entirely different reason than youÕd have otherwise, and to see this smiling mug of der Schlickmeister maybe more than they could take. HereÕs another thing. WerenÕt Dole and Kemp in Pittsburgh at a rally at Point State Park either the same day or the day before. BILL Ah no, no they havenÕt. TheyÕve been at Point State Park I think about 3 or 4 weeks ago. RUSH Ok, ok. They were there. How many people did they draw? It wasnÕt that many was it? BILL I heard it was about ten thousand RUSH Ten Thousand. It was that many. I thought it was in the hundreds. I canÕt get the story straight on the crowds theyÕre drawing. Because I was going to say if they only drew hundreds then you would have to say the booing of der Schlickmeister may not have anything to do with the Presidential Campaign. We can all, of course, sit around and hope, but I think you have to be at least open to the possibility that the fans there were there specifically for Leland. Now even though the President praised Leland they may have looked at it, Òoh come on, I see a campaigner when I see it and I know an insincere campaigner when I see one. This is not the time for that-boooooo!Ó. BILL I donÕt know. Pittsburgh may represent one of the elements of the Democratic corps, but these people are not that cynical. Twenty-five thousand is also perhaps 1% of the total population in the market here and it may be a better cross section then CNN, Time, Newsweek, Gallop or anybody else is getting. RUSH Perhaps, perhaps. I mean because it is such a hotbed. You know I lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years back in the early 70Õs and I have some friends that still live there and I know the political makeup of Pittsburgh. You got a lot of Democrats there simply because their grandparents were Democrats. Other than that they donÕt know why theyÕre Democrats. They used to work in the mills, big steel and coal region, and it was heavily unionized. You got some people that just because of tradition are Democrat donÕt really know why any more in an ideological sense but it still is very heavily Democratic in that way, but you know some of the recent city elections in Pittsburgh and youÕve seen some Republicans win. So you could be right. I mean I certainly hope you are and IÕm not trying to put a damper on it, IÕm just trying to be realistic. Always keep things in proper perspective. Bottom line is der Schlickmeister was booed by 25,000 at Three Rivers Stadium and just on the surface, just on the face of that thatÕs a positive, and so weÕll take it. Bill, thanks for the call I appreciate it. You know the liberals are acting anything but confident. Yesterday of course David Bonyer of the Pitt Yorkie of the Democratic members of Congress, the House of Representatives, decided to launch after Mr. Newt. They are continuing to hound Mr. Newt on ethics charges, and I tell you what this goes back to. This is simply the Democrats paying back Mr. Newt for daring to oust Fort Worthless Jim, the ex-democratic speaker who had a shaky and flimflam book deal that was basically a deal between him and the teamsters. And you know you can say if youÕre going to go after somebody on ethics you better be squeaky clean yourself because theyÕre gonna come back at you and thatÕs what theyÕve been doing after since Mr. Newt became Speaker. And Bonyer is not letting up the ethics committee says we are going to look further into it. I want you to listen to the Pitt Yorkie himself, David Bonyer, in his announcement yesterday. ÒWe are here today to call on the Republican Caucus to demand Newt Gingrich step aside as Speaker of the House until the investigation of the Independent Council is completed. This is a man who has hidden the truth from the Ethics Committee and hidden the truth from the American people.Ó Oh dream on. You guys where were you you got a 20 point lead, 15 point lead, what are you guys panicking for? You know I would almost make this deep if I were Mr. Newt. And say, ÒFine Mr. Bonyer you want me to step down while the investigation continues, fine. Then you go get Bill Clinton to step down while the numerous special prosecutors investigating his past continue their work. I mean if we should step down during investigations then get Bill Clinton to step down. ItÕs silly. This is absolutely ridiculous and thereÕs other news with Bonyer. You know heÕs got a candidate opposing him, serious candidate for the first time. Her name is Susie Heinz. She casts an imposing figure. SheÕs 6Õ tall, and she has pulled to within 10 points of Bonyer in their Michigan district. Bonyer is from Mt. Clemens. Bonyer has never had a serious challenge, so organizers of a scheduled debate next week between Bonyer and Susie Heinz said that the event has been canceled because of numerous disagreements. There was to have been a debate Monday at St. Clair Community College. It has officially been canceled because the candidates are at odds at the format and proposed restrictions of what could be discussed. Listen to this. Susie Heinz, Republican challenger to David Bonyer....I want to tell you something folks for those of you in Michigan in this district. Getting rid of Bonyer would be as meaningful as the George Nethercut defeat of Tom Foley in Washington last year. And for the first time itÕs realistically possible as I say if there are only 10 points separating these two, 6 weeks out, and Bonyer has never faced this sort of touch challenge. Now listen. Susie Heinz said that David Bonyer wanted to limit the questions in the debate to a total of three. No more than 3 questions in the debate and she said that Bonyer insisted that his wifeÕs employment in his office be off limits. Now why? What are you trying to hide Congressman Bonyer? Susie Heinz says how can he blame it on us when it wasnÕt us who were trying to impose ridiculous restrictions. Only 3 questions Bonyer says and donÕt ask me anything about my wife working in my office. All of a sudden the inquisitor, David Bonyer, the man who sits high above it all and tells us the ethics of other members is to be questioned, doesnÕt want to be questioned himself. Hummmm! Would he have this reaction if his opponent were a man? He is somehow reluctant to debate the imposing figure of Susie Heinz, a woman who has pulled to within 10 points, a limit of 3 questions in the debate and no questions about the role his wife plays in being employed in his, BonyerÕs office. I think this requires an ethics investigation on its surface, and I think Bonyer should be forced to step down as a member of Congress while this investigation of what just is his wife doing in his office is conducted. WeÕll take a break here ladies and gentlemen. COMMERCIAL RUSH We go back to the phones on Open Line Friday. This is Rush Limbaugh. Lynn, our ole friend from Hammonton, NJ. Hi Lynn LYNN Hi Rush how are you? The reason I wanted to call you today was because of the uprising in Israel by the Palestinians, and what IÕve listen to between the television news and all the interviews and reading the papers for the most part what IÕm hearing is, is that all IsraelÕs fault, itÕs Benjamin NetanayouÕs fault. He was the one who decided to open this tunnel. The fact of the matter is that that tunnel has been open and operational for 8 years. What they did was open an exit from the tunnel.....(Rush interrupts) RUSH Precisely, because you couldnÕt get out you had to turn around and come....itÕs only 3 feet wide. LYNN And all of the Arab, the Palestinian merchants in the area of the exit were over the moon because of all the tourist business because they would then receive, but all thatÕs been set aside and Clinton has decided Òoh IÕll blame Netanayou because heÕs a conservative and he has been talking heads into going along with this nonsense.Ó It is insane to presume that Yassar Arafat, who is for all intents and purposes a serial killer of Jews, and has always been, and IÕm sorry I donÕt believe in redemption that much. I really donÕt. I donÕt think that a leopard changes his spots. I think that Yassar Arafat is a danger to his own people and the rest of the world because I think he is evil. RUSH Well let me tell you something else thatÕs bad about this though. Here you have....if thereÕs ever been a knee jerk reaction its this. So eager are Bill Clinton and his fellow liberals, journalists and world leaders around the world to blame conservative Jews for this, that they donÕt even bother to look in to find out how it might of happened. And in the process of blaming the Jews there are only going to extend this fighting. TheyÕre only going to make the Arabs think aha we can keep going because we got the world on our side, everybodyÕs, finally we succeeded in making the world mad at the Jews again. Bill Clinton ought to have his head examined. HeÕs just given carte blanche to the anti-Jewish crowd around the world to keep going here by blaming the Jews for this. LYNN Exactly. But not only that Rush also a point missed on those people that 2-1/2 years ago it was the Israeli government that was then in power who armed the Palestinian local police force and those are the very same guns and the very same bullets that are now being used to shoot Israeli soldiers. I mean its very easy for people sitting in the comfort of the United States of America to try to condemn Netanayou and this new government. It is quite something else to be on the receiving end of those guns and bullets. Its quite something else when as an Israeli you are subjected to bombs, blowing up your buffers, killing your children, your young men in uniform being blown to pieces, all of that doesnÕt seem to matter. It goes by the wayside. I wonder if the same situation were to arise in this country where you had a small group without a so-called homeland who decided well weÕll set up shop in Manhattan and then weÕre going to turn around and weÕre going to shoot your police officers with the guns that your government gave us. RUSH Ah, then blame talk radio. LYNN Well exactly Rush For being complicit and use it as an excuse to shut some of us up. I kid you not. Lynn your right on the money on this. Knee jerk reaction donÕt even investigate it. I mean Netanayou wasnÕt even in the country. Netanayou was at a memorial service at a Nazi Concentration Camp when all this happened, but immediately.....see Clinton canÕt get over whatÕs happened here, canÕt get over Netanayou won...even Shimon Perez has started ripping into Netanayou ala Clinton at the United Nations ripping into Americans. I mean its, its a....the left around the world knows that theyÕre in their last legs and theyÕre reacting with hysterical panic and seizing every opportunity they can to turn the tide in their favor, but all theyÕve done here with this is just encourage the warfare against Jews in Israel by blaming the Jews for this as Bill Clinton has done. COMMERCIAL END OF SIDE A, TAPE 1 ************************************************** The Rush Limbaugh Program WWDB September 27, 1995 Tape 1, Side B COMMERCIAL RUSH Open Line Friday and Rush Limbaugh your guiding light on the Excellence in Broadcasting Network. Chuck in Woodstock, Illinois. CHUCK Hello Rush. Dittos from Illinois. I know one of your frustrations is so many people calling to try to advise Bob Dole how to run his campaign and the press bias. RUSH IÕm over that now. Go ahead if you got advice, go ahead CHUCK Well actually IÕm a 100% Bob Dole supporter and I like the way heÕs running his campaign, but thereÕs one item on this debate flak thatÕs going, how to organize it, and thereÕs a lectern problem that Bob DoleÕs having, you know he needs that flat lectern... RUSH He needs a flat lectern to be able to take notes during the town meeting format debate. CHUCK ThatÕs right. And I want to know where the PC police are on this. Here he is handicapped, he needs that because of his handicap, and Bob DoleÕs refusing it. RUSH Yeah, and then in the meantime you have the sensitive press spokesman, Mike McCurry, referring to Dole as the Titanic Juggernaut of Debaters. CHUCK Absolutely. You would think that he would give Dole anything he needed because they have all the....(Rush interrupts) RUSH Well maybe it is that Clinton really doesnÕt want to debate. You know few front runners really do what do they got to gain by it. You have Clinton, whether its a 10 point or 15 point lead. What is there to gain by debating. ThereÕs nothing they think that all you can do is set yourself up to lose but you have to do it in the PR sense, but I think they know that Dole is not the cream puff in a debate and they know that they think he is or everybody else thinks he is and they know that their guy Clinton is vulnerable to a whole bunch of stuff in a debate. CHUCK Well why doesnÕt Bob Dole make some mileage on this from the handicap perspective and (Rush interrupts) RUSH He never has and heÕs not going to start now. ThereÕs no way, no way heÕs going to do that. ThatÕs not in him at all. ThatÕs not part of his makeup and it would disappoint a lot of people if he did. He doesnÕt want to make of himself a victim of anything, and I donÕt blame him. Anyway Chuck thanks much for the call. Not enough time here to be fair with people who are left this hour on the phone so hold them all Mr. Snerdley till the next hour. Most of you, many of you, have probably seen by now the videotape of the last statement of Richard Allen Davis in that San Jose courtroom yesterday. If you havenÕt we have the audio and weÕll treat you to it in the monologue segment of the next hour. In addition, how many of you saw Larry King live last night on the Clinton News Network guest hosted by Greta van Susteran. If you didnÕt I watched a little of it, not much because it was tough to take. The guests were Richard Allen DavisÕ sister and her husband. And IÕll tell you what little of it I had to stomach to watch after we play you the audio excerpt of Richard Allen DavisÕ last statement and other items of course on the agenda after this break. COMMERCIAL RUSH Welcome back my friends. So nice to have you along. This is the Rush Limbaugh Program, etc. So Richard Allen Davis takes a young little girl away from her home, kidnaps her, and murders her, 12 year old Polly Kloss. During the trial and after the, actually shortly after the jury verdict of guilty is read Richard Allen Davis turns to the TV camera in the courtroom and flips the camera, in essence America, the bird, he shot everybody the finger. That my friends many thought was the last straw. It was one thing for this guy to kidnap and murder a 12 year old girl, but to then to flip America off we couldnÕt abide that. No because many of us in America seemed willing to forgive. If somebody would just say that they didnÕt mean it, or if somebody would just say they are sorry. If somebody would just say please forgive me I know I did it, but I feel terrible about it. We have a bunch of very susceptible suckers in this country who will look past the horrible deed and forgive it or a portion of it if somebody simply says theyÕre sorry, but Richard Allen Davis gave up any hope of redemption with the American people when he flipped us all the bird. Yesterday it was time for Richard Allen Davis to be sentenced in a San Jose courtroom. The Judge made a point of saying that these sentences are very difficult, they are very tough to do in those cases, but Richard Allen Davis yesterday made it actually very easy. And this is why after Richard Allen Davis was sentenced, or before he was sentenced, he got a chance to make a final statement to the court and this was it. ÒI would also like to state for the record that the main reason I know I did not attempt any lewd act that night was because of a statement the young girl made to me when walking her up the embankment. Just donÕt do me like my dad. If I have to pay my dues so should you.Ó ÒBurn in hell, Davis.Ó All right that concludes the statement Richard Allen Davis with one flailing attempt, attempts to accuse the father of sexually molesting and abusing his own daughter, and it was after that the Judge says, Òthis is easyÓ. Then the father, Mark Kloss, lunged actually lunged at Davis and they had to escort him out of the courtroom. He had a good line he said, ÒSee you in hell, Davis. Say hello to Dahmer, say hello to Hitler, and say hello..Ó. He didnÕt say Òsee you in hellÓ, but he said ÒyouÕll be in hell. Say hello, when you get to hell say hello to Hitler, say hello to Dahmer, say hello to Bundy.Ó So finally, finally, AmericaÕs outraged over this. Finally, look at what itÕs taken for this country to get outraged. American people are outraged. TheyÕre outraged over flipping the bird and now this statement. Now it would seem to me there would be an equal amount of outrage over the crime itself, but and maybe there was, but we just didnÕt see it. Now moving on. Yesterday ladies and gentlemen we discussed the issues of family leave on this program and we discussed what will happen in the future. Bill Clinton wants, and Mrs. Clinton, remember she went to the birthing center, where she was greeted by signs that said Òyour too late Mrs. Clinton these made itÓ. Referring to the newborns at the birthing center. It used to be a maternity ward in a hospital and now they call it a birthing center. And Mrs. Clinton went there to announce that Americans need an additional 24 hours a year personal time to handle such things, you see 12 weeks family medical leave is not enough, you need an additional 24 hours or 3 work days to take the dog to the vet or get a manicure or whatever else that you need to do. And we spent a number of hours yesterday actually an hour and a half talking about this and where we were headed and I can show you where weÕre headed. (Rush rumples up papers) I have a story here ladies and gentlemen from Stutgart, Germany. Listen carefully because if the Clintons, and the Bonyers and the Gepharts and the Al Gores get their way this will soon be a story here. More than 25,000 employees at the luxury car maker, Mercedes Benz, staged protests Thursday in response to 20% cuts in sick pay announced 2 days ago by the companyÕs parent group, Domler Benz ag. At the Mercedes car production plant in Sindelfiegen the entire early crew of 15,000 workers left work 2-1/2 hours before the shift was over. Some 6,000 workers at the companyÕs other factory also stopped work as did another 3,000 in the port city of Breman where employees quit working for an hour. Another 2,000 employees demonstrated in front of the Mercedes Benz works at Esslingheim Midighim as the day started with signs that read Òwe will not be plundered this time we wonÕt pay tax gifts for the rich.Ó ÒThis is just the beginningÓ, said Helmut Lens, head of the Mercedes Benz work council. He said it was a shame that Mercedes Benz and the mother concern, Domler Benz, chose to lead the way in breaking workerÕs contracts which guaranteed them 100% pay on sick leave. Domler Benz announced the cuts Tuesday effective October 1. It said that while previous federal law mandated 100% of normal wages when a worker is out sick a new law passed in Parliament on September 13 allows them to cut that to 80%. The law applies to short term illnesses lasting up to 6 weeks. (Rush rumples papers) Short term illnesses lasting up to 6 weeks. German unions and the opposition in Parliament have criticized the cuts as taking from the poor to give to the rich. The government says they are necessary to insure Germany remains a viable location for industrial investment and to create jobs in a time of 10% unemployment. This, my friends, is where the United States of America is heading if Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and David Bonyer and Richard Gephart and Tom Dashiel and Donna Shalela and Janet Reno and Robert B. Rishe and Robert Rubin, et al, get their way. WeÕll be headed to 10% unemployment every time an attempt to save money is made it will be castigated and criticized as an attempt to enrich the wealthy. Sick pay. Sick pay. What did I tell you people yesterday. What did I tell you. How many people already use sick days when theyÕre not sick and use them for personal days. And how many personal days do people have in addition to sick days and vacation days already in the United States. This is what happens my friends because a government cannot continue to give, and give, and give and continue to increase the amount. At some point its going to go broke and have to start reclaiming some of those give aways, and the people who have been conditioned to receive the give aways are not going to sit by peacefully and have it taken away from them. A glimpse of the future and we look at the Mercedes Benz situation in Stutgart, Germany. WeÕll be back -1-800-282-2882 if youÕd like to join us. COMMERCIAL RUSH LetÕs go to Brooklyn this is Helen. Welcome to the program. HELEN Hi Rush itÕs a pleasure. Rush I am inclined to think that the media blitz that weÕre getting here, the pictures of you know the peoples, the pictures representing the Palestinian perspective. IÕm inclined to think that the media blitz in Israel and in the United States is an effort to destabilize the Netanayou government... (Rush interrupts) RUSH WhatÕs your first clue? ThereÕs no question thatÕs what this is. ItÕs an effort to destabilize the Netanayou government thatÕs at the very least thatÕs what itÕs an effort to do HELEN Yeah, and you see because youÕre looking at the pictures and the people they are all shown from the Palestinian perspective. HereÕs a wounded Palestinian whoÕs been shot by Israelis. RUSH ItÕs probably Arafat and Company video. HELEN Yeah, because I mean why why create such a crisis over the opening of a tunnel. It is not logical. You know they knew this was going to happen and the response is extreme. You see because Netanayou has not been folding and bending over like Perez and Riabendetta. You see? RUSH Oh I know, IÕm fully apprised and aware. Yes, I see. I know. I just think its extremely amazing politically for Bill Clinton to be blaming the Jews on this. IÕm IÕm just amazed and the chorus of blame of the Jews that you hear in mainstream journalism today the elitist commentators, other world leaders, yeah this situation I think Arafat was just waiting on and as I say as I said last hour as President Clinton and the rest of this intelligencia continued to blame the Jews they just reload the guns of the Arabs of ArafatÕs soldiers. TheyÕre just continuing to reload the ammo. HereÕs Tom in Detroit. Welcome to the Rush Limbaugh Program. Hello TOM Rush its a pleasure. The reason I called is I wanted to indicate that I disagree with Clinton for this reason that Arafat according to the Wall Street Journal, I think it was yesterday or today in an editorial indicated that Arafat started a couple of weeks ago to criticize the Israeli government and actually the article indicated that his rhetoric was very inciting I mean he was really bringing these people up to a frenzy and then when this happened, when this gate was opened or broken open to provide access, you know, then these people are already wound up and the thing was ready to go. RUSH Right. And then we decided to grab a can of gasoline and throw it on the burning fire when Bill Clinton blames the Jews. TOM ThatÕs right. ThatÕs right. You know, so, thereÕs a lot going on over there. ItÕs a very complicated situation. I was there about a year ago and we were going through a tour through Israel. Of course, thatÕs a very profitable business for those people out there, and we had an Arab guide incidentally and he said my biggest enemy is CNN. He said all they do is broadcast around the world how bad it is here and it really isnÕt all that bad. It was kind of an interesting comment. RUSH Yeah, yeah, IÕve been there too. But you canÕt, youÕre right I mean you canÕt escape the fact that say to somebody, Òhey want to go to Israel next weekÓ. ÒNoooooo youÕre not going to get me over there in that.Ó There is this image that itÕs a constant bloodbath. But let me tell you something. Folks compared to the peace that we know in this country it is a blood bath everyday. Compared to the way we live, and this is what Netanayou and his government are simply sick of, and thereÕs got to be a peace that recognizes IsraelÕs sovereignty and security. ThatÕs all and they donÕt feel that the peace plan as it was headed had those 2 interests as paramount. Tom thanks for the call. Nice to hear from you. Woodland, California. This is Marlin suspiciously, dangerously close to Rio Linda, California where runaway Vietnamese pot bellied pigs still terrorize residents in their front yards. MARLIN Mostly dittos great one. Listen IÕve got a great idea. We can open up a great can of worms if Bob DoleÕs campaign would suit Bill Clinton using the AmericanÕs with Disabilities Act for not allowing him the kind of lectern he wants. RUSH In order to debate MARLIN Yes. You know that one out of 5 people in the United States are disabled. Superman said so at the Democratic National Convention. I heard him say that. RUSH Yes. Well you know why. ThatÕs how many drink. You can be a total disorderly destructive drunk on the job and if somebody can say that you have a medical predisposition toward intolerance of alcohol you suffer from a disability and you cannot be disciplined or fired for it. MARLIN Exactly, and thatÕs the can of worms that needs to be opened. That would give an opportunity for Bob Dole to point out how ridiculous that the usage under the Clinton Administration is of the American With Disabilities Act. RUSH I get your point. Well what youÕre saying is exciting and funny and full of yuks for us. I think that the Dole people would think its too close to the edge and might backfire. Cause the last thing Bob Dole is ever going to do is try to make himself out to be a victim or open himself up to be accused being a victim on the basis of his war wounds. The Democrats IÕm sure as soulless as they can be are sitting around waiting for Dole to champion this injury because IÕm sure theyÕve been prepared for an assault on ClintonÕs military past or lack of it, and IÕm sure theyÕre just waiting for Dole to use that and jump down his throat for trying to portray himself as some sort of hero, and I just donÕt think that he wants to make any big deal about this that would be interpreted by people as Dole thinks heÕs being treated unfairly because of his war wounds. I think that the opportunity for this to go haywire would be too great in their mind. HeÕs going to keep plugging. We need a flat lectern I can write on I got to take notes during this town hall debate, and I need a lectern that is not at an angle so that my papers donÕt fall off of it. ThatÕs all it is. Ann in Smithtown, New York ANN Yes, I was just thinking the reason Clinton was backing the Arab States because he lost their good graces when he went against Iran. RUSH I hadnÕt thought of that. I think thatÕs possible, but IÕm I donÕt know. What is there to gain by getting back in their good graces of the Arabs. ANN Well they wouldnÕt let him use any of their air bases or anything when he tried to go against Hussein. RUSH But they still wonÕt. I mean if we tried to do the same again they wonÕt because they hate Kurds more then they despise Saddam Hussein. And I think that decision will be based....No this has to do with ideological politics. This has to do with conservative governments triumphing and succeeding that will not be allowed to happen here or around the world as long as Bill Clinton and his friends in the intelligencia and the media have anything to say about it. Athens, OH. Cory, hello. CORY Mega dittos. Self-employed dittos from Athens, OH. I was just calling yesterday. I was listening to the program and CNN was running right before the program started and they were talking about the 6 year old boy expelled from school from kissing a classmate on the cheek. Doctor Ruth (Rush interrupts) RUSH I saw this show (Rush mimics Dr. Ruth). I saw this show with Dr. Ruth, Susan Estridge, who appears to be gobbling the camera when she speaks and Andrea Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition. Now Mary Phillips started in on right wing talk show hosts and.....(Cory interrupts) CORY And they had to just bring you in there. They just had to mention it. RUSH I am talk radio. You start talking talk radio my nameÕs going to be associated with it. Yeah typical of the Clinton News Network. CORY Did you hear what Andrea said when she said, ÒWhat do you want him to do. Grow up to be like Bill?Ó RUSH Yes, I thought that was a great line. Andrea Sheldon said, ÒwhatÕs the problem here? I mean heÕs in the early stages of Bill Clinton. HeÕs right on path to growing up to be a great little Bill ClintonÓ. And, of course, they just thought that was beneath the pale. COMMERCIAL Program begins with an audio of one of DoleÕs speeches ÒWhat do you call someone who tries to take over the nationÕs health care system and put the government in charge of itÓ. The crowd screams ÒA Liberal!Ó ÒWhat do you call someone who twisted arms in Congress to kill the balanced budget amendment?Ó The crowd screams ÒA Liberal!Ó. ÒWhat do you call someone who appointed a Surgeon General and talked about legalizing drugs.Ó The crowd screams ÒA Liberal!Ó ÒYouÕre right! Liberal! Liberal! Liberal! Bill Clinton!Ó Bob Dole on fire. Bob Dole on a roll. Bob Dole yesterday in West Palm Beach, Florida accused Bill Clinton of lying to season citizens. Finally, he told the President to stop scaring season citizens and stop lying to them about how the Republicans want to cut Medicare. So finally Bob Dole after calling Bill Clinton a liberal now gets to the issue of Bill ClintonÕs honesty. ItÕs about time. Ladies and gentlemen yesterday during the debate on the Senate floor the Senate was debating whether or not to vote to override the PresidentÕs veto on partial-birth abortions. Something happened. One of those things that could never be scripted and be pulled off. One of those things that just happens out of the blue and when it does you are forced to look to the heavens and ask yourself whether or not a Divine Message has been sent. Let me tell you what happened yesterday. Barbara Boxer, during her segment, was telling stories of women who chose partial-birth abortions because of serious abnormalities discovered late in pregnancy. She said these women wanted those babies. They named those babies, Mr. President. They buried those babies with love. Five feet away Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania said in a high pleading voice he cried out from his soul, ÒWhere do we draw the line? Some people have likened this procedure to an appendectomy. ThatÕs not an appendix,Ó he shouted. And then he pointed to a drawing of a fetus. ÒThat is not a blob of tissueÓ, he said. ÒIt is a baby. It is a babyÓ. And within 2 seconds within the hushed gallery, a baby cried in the United States Senate from the visitors gallery. Within 2 seconds a babyÕs cry was heard. There was stunned silence after the babyÕs cry and not one reference to the cry was made by any Senator. You couldnÕt script it. You couldnÕt script it and pull it off. It just happened. Right after Ms. Boxer makes the case for this procedure, Rick Santorum said, ÒThatÕs not a blob of tissue. ThatÕs a babyÓ, and a baby cried on the floor of the United States Senate. Atlanta, Georgia. Mitchell hello. Welcome to the Rush Limbaugh Program. MITCHELL Mega dittos Rush how ya doing? The reason I called today I was reading next weekÕs issue of The Weekly Standard dated September 30. ThereÕs a very interesting letter to the editor in there from a Mr. John R. Schmidt who is the Associate Attorney General of the United States. HeÕs replying to an article written by a John Juleo about how to deal with youth crime. And in it there talking about the 100,000 police. Unfortunately I donÕt have a good documented guess for your contest on the 100,000 police (Rush interrupts) RUSH You donÕt need one. I can tell ya that weÕve been able to determine that the funding, the maximum number of cops there could be, but arenÕt, the maximum number could be so far is 20,000 MITCHELL Right, well thatÕs what he said in this article. Of course, he claims they funded half of these 100,000 but that there are about 20,000 on the beat now. RUSH And some of them have just been transferred from one beat to another beat and theyÕre called new cops so its not even 20 its not even 10. ItÕs a joke. MITCHELL Exactly. I just think its funny that finally we have someone from the administration whoÕs gotten this number down to 20,000. So weÕre getting closer inch by inch to an actual number. RUSH Yes we are but it is interesting that the Administration is writing this letter to the editor. I wonder how long this guyÕs going to be working there? Because the line is that thereÕs a 100,000 cops out there. And now hereÕs the administration, the assistant attorney general, writing in a funding for 20, but.... Thanks for the call and a heads up. Appreciate it Mitchell. This is a cellular call from Manhattan. Hello Billy welcome to the EIB Network. BILLY Hi. I go as far back as when your first days in New York City. RUSH That would be July 4, 1988. BILLY This is the first time I called on your national show or got through. IÕd like..... END OF SIDE B, TAPE 1 **************************************
