As the Annenberg School continues to grow, we have found it necessary to create additional space for classrooms, meetings, and faculty offices. Since the Library’s holdings are, increasingly, being accessed via the Internet, the decision was made to use Library space to meet Annenberg’s space needs.
Reconstruction is set to begin at the close of the Spring term, and should be finished before the start of the Fall 2008 semester.
The architectural firm of MGA Partners designed the new layout for the library. Hinman Construction will perform the actual work.
The work will take place during the day, but no classes should be disturbed. Since the project is scheduled to take place during summer, class schedules are very light; no classes are scheduled for the library classrooms.
No, the library will close on May 13, 2008 and remain closed through the summer of 2008 during the construction. However, students and faculty can still access its holdings in storage through document delivery. Additionally, many Annenberg journals will be available online.
Requests for items can be made by calling 215-898-7027 or writing docdel@asc.upenn.edu.
All of the Annenberg Library holdings will remain available, either online, from storage, or in new physical spaces in and around the ASC Library.
Yes. There will be more computing options than before. There will be stand-up and seated information displays. Overall there will be as many workstations as before, either in the form of a desktop or laptop computer. As before, students can use their own laptop PCs and the Library’s wireless Internet connection.
