Annenberg’s Marwan M. Kraidy promoted to full professor

Marwan M. Kraidy, Ph.D.

The University of Pennsylvania’s Board of Trustees has approved the promotion of Annenberg’s Marwan M. Kraidy to full professor.

 

Prof. Kraidy is a scholar of global communication and an expert on Arab media and politics. Prior to joining Annenberg he was a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the founding director of the Arab Media and Public Life project at American University, both in Washington, D.C. He is the author of Hybridity or the Cultural Logic of Globalization(Temple University Press, 2005), the award-winning work Reality Television and Arab Politics: Contention in Public Life (Cambridge University Press, 2010), Arab Television Industries (British Film Institute/Palgrave Macmillan, with Joe Khalil), and is the co-editor (with Annenberg’s Katherine Sender, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Communication) of The Politics of Reality Television: Global Perspectives (Routledge, 2010).

 

This has been a year of significant accomplishments for Prof. Kraidy. In January he was named a Penn Fellow for 2011, a program that provides leadership development to select members of Penn faculty in mid-career. In April he received a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He was one of 180 recipients of the 2011 Guggenheim Fellowships, selected from a field of more than 3,000 nominees. Earlier this month the National Communication Association bestowed upon him the Diamond Anniversary Book Award for Reality Television and Arab Politics: Contention in Public Life.
