Got your Leica out of the closet? Got some film in it? Ready to share your world with the rest of it? Excellent. This is a Very Simple template for publishing a photo-a-week on the Web. Everything is provided, all you need to do is paste your image over-top of each week's thumbnail image and upload that, along with your full-sized image to your Web space.
The simple template displays 52 premade small (thumbnail) images. Each of these images, named sm1.jpg, sm2.jpg, etc. up to sm52.jpg, displays the name of the week it represents. They look like this:
Each of these small (hence the "sm" in it's name) images is linked to a file named for the week it represents. E.g, "sm1.jpg" is linked to a file called 1.jpg. So when you click on "week 1" it will link to a file called 1.jpg. This is already setup. What you need to do each week is take the "sm" file for that week and paste your thumbnail overtop of it. (resize your image to 190 pixels across). To make everything fit properly, I only made horizontal thumnails. you have two choices when doing a vertical, either paste a detail overtop of the image, or resize the vertical so that it's about 124 pixels high and put the whole thing in there. Here's how it should look:

Save the image with the same filename (sm1.jpg) and upload it to your Web space. Also upload the full sized image (I recommend 800 pixels across for easy viewing). Name that file after the week, e.g. 1.jpg. The full sized image for week 2 would be 2.jpg and the full sized image for week 12 would be 12.jpg.
Who knows. That's up to you. www.tripod.com gives out free web space, they have annoying pop-up ads though. Your ISP also probably has Web space for you without the annoying ads.
There aren't really any rules but I will offer up some guidelines.
1 photo a week posted on Mondays (or thereabouts) gives you the weekend to print and scan. Each photo taken during the previous week (it's pointless to showcase your old photos in this format).
Post to the LUG when your page is updated. Hopefully this will shame the rest of them into taking photos instead of bickering about a) Billington bags, b) rangefinder flare, c) lens hoods d) "is there really a mint +", e) "could salago beat capra in a fair fight?" f) vintage straps, etc.
Okay now. Get going.
There are some limitation with this template. Notably, there's no space for writing text about your images. If you know a little about HTML you can add a list at the bottom of the index page with info about the pictures, in the manner of:
Week 1: Bumblebee sitting on a daisy. Taken with a Leica iiic and a viseoflex on Agfachrome 2 asa f22 at sixteen seconds.Week 2: Man eating cheese. Taken with a Leica M6 and 35mm Summilux on Tri-X rated at 50 asa and developed in Coca-Cola.
The reason that I didn't include this in the template is that it requires rewriting the index.html file every time and the way the template is set up now it only requires uploading 2 images every week. Also, as the weeks progress, the page will take longer and longer to download as it'll get pretty image heavy. You can help this by compressing your thumbnail jpegs as much as you can stand.
Let me know if you have any problems. And let me know that you're participating and I'll add your name to the Who's Participating list.
