Resisting Authoritarian Control Over Media: The Center for Media at Risk

Authoritarian governments are on the rise worldwide, and their dampening effect on media freedom is a direct threat to the free flow of information - the very basis of democracy. On December 6, 2019, the Center for Media at Risk held its annual symposium, entitled "Authoritarianism: Power/Resistance" at the Annenberg School for Communications.

In this video, attendees weigh in on what can be done to resist threats to media freedom. Speakers include Maryam Al-Khawaja (human rights activist), François Heinderyckx (Université libre de Bruxelles), Melissa Chan (freelance journalist), Federico Finchelstein (New School for Social Research), Keith Gessen (novelist and journalist), and Maria Ressa (Rappler)
