When Bethany Klein is not pursuing the demands of an Annenberg Ph.D., you might find her at hot music events around the city. For the past three years, she has been writing music reviews for the Philadelphia Inquirer, mostly concert reviews of various rock, pop, and hip-hop acts. Recently Bethany's assignments included Michelle Branch, Evan Dando, and Norah Jones. Previous artists have ranged from Britney Spears to Donovan to Blink-182. When asked for any weird or unusual happenings on her "rounds," Bethany was hard pressed to come up with anything "unless you consider sitting through a rock show sober a weird experience." No doubt her adventures as pop music critic informed the thesis she just finished this Spring called "Dancing About Architecture: Popular Music Criticism and the Negotiation of Authority."
