Kraidy Makes Presentations at the University of Tampere and the University of Leeds

Marwan M. Kraidy, Ph.D., Director of the Project for Advanced Research in Global Communication and The Anthony Shadid Chair in Global Media, Politics & Culture will give two talks at European universities in December related to his current research on the human body as a locus of power and resistance in revolutionary times.

On December 3rd, as part of the Tampere Research Center for Journalism, Media and Communication (COMET) fall lecture series, Kraidy will present “Creative Insurgency: Bodies and Media in Revolutionary Activism."

On December 10th he will give a research seminar at the School of Media and Communication, University of Leeds, entitled “Digital Activism of Another Kind.” Through an in-depth analysis of one instance of revolutionary humor, the Syrian video web series Top Goon—Diaries of a Little Dictator, he will “explore how the symbolism of the human body, coupled with a peculiar aesthetic of miniaturization, anchor humor to revolutionary struggle.”

Kraidy is a 2014/15 Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study where he is researching Arab creative dissent in revolutionary times.
