Professor Victor Pickard was a panelist at a Stanford University symposium on the first amendment. He was a panelist along with Mignon Clyburn, a commissioner with the Federal Communication Commission. The topic of the day was “Shaping your speech. Media reform past and present.” The subject of media reform and net neutrality were key topics at the panel, subjects on which Professor Pickard has written extensively. Additionally, Professor Pickard was interviewed by The Columbia Journalism Review for a story about the online news site BuzzFeed and the controversy surrounding the deletion of a critical story that was critical of Dove soap (Unilever, which owns the Dove brand, is an advertiser with BuzzFeed). His comments to CJR also appeared online in a Washington Post story about Dovegate. “As the distinctions between advertising and news operations continue to blur, we can expect more of these controversies in the future,” Pickard said..
