Professor Jemmott gives invited address at APA conference

John B. Jemmott, III, the Kenneth B. Clark Professor of Communication in Psychiatry, Director of the Center for Health Behavior and Communication Research, Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, delivered an Invited Address at the 117th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association in Toronto, Canada, Aug. 6–9.

In his address, entitled, "Designing Family-Based Interventions: An Effort to Empower Mothers and Reduce Their Sons' Sexual Risk," Dr. Jemmott presented a randomized controlled trial that implemented an HIV/STD risk reduction intervention with single mothers with sons 11 to 15 years of age living in 42 Philadelphia public housing developments. The intervention was designed to reduce the mothers' sexual risk behavior and to empower them to help their sons reduce their own sexual risks.
