Rayya El Zein studies change in subcultural communities. Her current work thinks with public technologists around the globe about how to build sustainability and equity into their organizational structures.
Rayya El Zein studies change in subcultural communities. She has worked among anthropologists, technologists, musicians, journalists, and performance artists trying to understand why people make the decisions they do in any given moment. She spent over a decade conducting ethnographic research among artists and activists in Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. Her current work at Code for Science & Society, a tech non profit, thinks with public technologists around the globe about how to build sustainability and equity into their organizational structures. She holds a Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance from the City University of New York (2016) and was a postdoctoral fellow at CARGC (2017-2019).
