Yu Weili, Ph.D.

Visiting Scholar, Annenberg School for Communication

Yu Weili, Ph.D., has been a reporter, editor, and producer successively for China Central Television (CCTV) for almost 23 years, accumulating rich experience in news gathering, editing and management. She holds a Ph.D. in Journalism and Communication from Wuhan University in China.

From 1990 to 1993, Weili worked for a magazine and obtained three years of experience in print media. In 1994, she was employed by CCTV as an editor of FOCUS INTERVIEW, the most famous and popular TV program in China, which was praised by three Chinese Premiers: Li Peng, Zhu RongJI and Wen JiaBao. This primetime program, known as its depth reporting on social problems with supervision by public opinion, was once one of the top debate shows during the end of the last century in China and achieved the press top awards of China. Weili worked for this program for almost 16 years. Along with the development of the program, she gained experience as a producer, and in 2010, she was promoted to the current position of deputy director of Planning Department under the NEWS CENTER.

Yu Weili is a Senior Editor and Deputy Director of the Planning Department, News Center, of China's CCTV. She is also a visiting scholar at the Annenberg School for Communication.
