Inframediation: Blackness, Insurgency, and Climate Transition
About the Talk:
What’s at stake in cutting-edge media theories that have sought to imagine media as ecological and ontological? In what follows I examine both the possibilities and the limits of these media theories. Drawing from and also contesting these frameworks, I posit a theoretical analytic of inframediation as a way of attending both to the philosophical conundrums of mediation and the sociopolitical functions, uses, and effects of infrastructural and technological media. I will close with an account of Black media insurgency as a praxis of reimagining mediation and media in a time of climate transition.
