About the Talk

As many grapple with how to build or repair relationships between news media and the public, this discussion will explore how to build trust in journalism at the local level. In her new book, Community-Centered Journalism, Andrea Wenzel puts forward a model for local news created for and with communities. The book examines cases of local news interventions that use elements of solutions journalism and engaged journalism practices in historically marginalized communities across the U.S. — from California to Illinois to Kentucky to Pennsylvania. In this conversation, we’ll hear how some are reimagining journalism to share power and better serve communities and consider the many questions that remain.
